Hi-Trans Express adds six Actros Super Bs to fleet

Hi-Trans Express has added two new Mercedes-Benz Actros 2658 prime movers to their operation with another two due in September.

When including the six already received earlier this year, Hi-Trans Express will be operating ten of the 2024 model Actros units in their company-owned linehaul fleet.

Tony Mellick, Hi-Trans Express Chief Executive Officer, said the Actros fleet was currently undergoing a replenishment according to its scheduled four years or 1 million kilometres heavy vehicle management scheme.

The investment is aligned with the company’s sustainability vision and committed fleet replenishment program which is scheduled to be 100 per cent Euro 6 in 2025.

“We are buying Actros 2658s, mainly for the Euro 6 rated low emission powertrain,” he told Prime Mover.

“These trucks provide us with good fuel economy and they are all under a factory maintenance program.”

Strong established relationships with Daimler Truck and Daimler Trucks Adelaide, part of dealer group Velocity Truck Centres, have been delivering Hi-Trans exceptional technical support.

The new trucks will complement the recent delivery of six new Super B-double trailer sets, Tri Axle Drop Deck Titeliners built by Vawdrey Australia.

The new Super B units are operating under Performance-Based Standards (PBS), approved for Higher Mass Limits of 68.5 tonnes GVM and will carry express and general freight back and forth on the eastern seaboard, a province in which the respected fleet is already an active presence.

Compared to the company’s existing B-double trailer sets, Hi-Trans’ new Super B PBS combinations provide an additional eight pallet spaces for a total of 42 pallet spaces, with 18 on the A trailer and 24 on the B trailer.
